It's most useful that quick design starts with popular hull shapes, i suggest adding simple modifications to model like barge, to add bilge, knuckles, curved rakes, to make the modeling easier for simple barges.

Its something to consider, but at the moment you can load a template barge model and scale it to the desired Length, Beam and Depth.
