give signed Marker Error values +outside, -inside wrt surface local normal

Since its inception, Marker Error has lacked a sign convention and therefore not indicated the direction of the error, i.e. inside or outside a linked surface. It would be helpful for a sign convention to be applied so that the direction of the error can be understood from the Markers Table. It would also be helpful to know when Mean or RMS error is reported whether that is inside or outside a surface.

It would be helpful to have signs attached to errors to easily paste into a spreadsheet. Rms error is helpful as well so would keep that column. The ability to hide positive or negatives as well as in-tolerance markers would aid intuitive assessment of surface fit. Can't see the graphic on my phone but sounds a worthwhile idea.

could also display the error next to the marker?

Ive worked one out :-) -- although the actual and mean error will now be signed , RMS will always be positive since its the root of the mean of the squared errors. Hope to have it in a release later this year

I would be delighted to licence Bentley an algorithm if I could come up with one!

Do you have a mathematical expression or algorithm to calculate inside/outside?

As far as I can see, it is very hard for the generalized case, if not impossible - what is "inside" of a flat plane? we could probably use orientation of the surface outside arrow to get an idea of direction but that wouldnt work if the local normal was too different.
